HIGH TIMES CUP …Refine gets ready
September 5, 2012 § Leave a Comment
The very beginnings (not counting seed and soil of course) of the Refine x FireBrothers concentrate entry for the 2012 Seattle High Times Cup.
These two varietals, chosen from a harvest at the beginning of this year, were nitrogen-sealed (nearly equivalent to complete homeostasis) and now frozen. This material will be concentrated and purged of N-Butane hours before entry. For this cup Refine is working on a small-batch ‘artisan’ run consisting of powerful CBD material, which will undergo a proprietary preparation, and blended with this year’s DOPE Cup winner for highest THC (21%) White Dawg.
Refine and Seattle’s Best will be available for a meet and greet, and also to discuss the development butane testing in Washington alongside Northwest Botanical Analysis.

A Few Good Things On ALT

Welcome to our new regular assessment of what’s good, from budget to baller, on glass-baron www.AquaLabTechnologies.com‘s online store. Infamously sold out items won’t be included in this list, just what you can cop. To stay up to date on hard to get releases, follow @aqualabtechnologies.
1. Leisure & PaKoH – 15/10 Arm Blasted Venetian # 1 2,000$

I’ve always been a fan of Leisure’s ad nauseum approach to diffusers (click here to get a close up of that chunky downstem, absurd detail) and design-forward pieces. This ‘Venetian’ shape is dope, and to see it with PaKoh’s gorgeously out of character additions, all frosted (again, check the down stem) make it the ultimate table top rig for anyone looking to ball out on the 2,000$ price tag.
2. Hitman Sidecar-Brilliance Perc 400$

I was non-plussed when I tried the Hitman Sidecar-4 hole perc in San Francisco this year, but the brilliance perc looks more thought out and befitting of Hitman’s popularity. I’ve grown fond of the sidecar’s funky profile as well. The onboard dab bowl/oil dish (bottom left) is a dope addition, although a bit novel in the end.
Slightly disappointed in the lack of a belly button domeless kit, it’s what converted me to the brand in the first place.
3. Pyrology-The Stew Concentrate Tube 600$
There’s not much I know about Pyrology glass, outside of some affiliation with Illadelph, and a vague website. Pieces and initial videos looked promising, but have yet to hear reviews. I’m always on the look out for a good concentrate tube (The Stew is 15″). Having one compact rig in the quiver is good, but I’d pull tubes all day. I love the shape of the The Stew, and you can see where the name comes from-an oil drum style perc in the first chamber, restricted by a slitted disc. The side screw to empty the water chamber is a cool touch, and good to see folks pushing it. Would love to hear some feed back on the functionality of this piece.
4. Dirty Rico-Mini Vapor Bubbler 175$

Most folks are looking to get in for under 200$, this is a great answer to that. Dirty Rico is a PNW local, so you may want to look for one of his compact bubblers at a Piece of Mind location first.. Might even get out with rig and torch for 200$ if you do it right.
Butane Testing Comes to Washington State MMJ
July 30, 2012 § 2 Comments
Seattle’s Best Cannabis & Concentrates in-house concentrate specialist Refine has been spearheading an effort alongside WA state’s independent laboratory Northwest Botanical Analysis to develop a standard of testing for butane and any commercial additives that may be present.
This test can even be tried against specific brands of commercial butane the processor may have used, to test not only for butane, but also its unique make up of other chemicals.

We will be working through the next couple weeks to test the results against multiple variables-such as purging surface used, temperatures, starting material, etc. to try and produce a test that can guarantee a safe pass/fail system for Washington State patients.
The strong and immediate relief offered through concentrated medicine that can be combusted and inhaled (translation: smoking) is an extremely powerful tool for patients previously dependent on opiates or other pill-form medication. We hope to lead the charge in an even safer, and more effective way of relief.
We’ll keep you updated, happy dabbing.
