How We Get High #1 “Selecting & Ingesting”

February 2, 2011 § 2 Comments

Cannabis is best used to each individual’s needs. Unlike the dead-ends of opiate based painkillers and benzodiazepines, marijuana gives the user hope in endless variety and highly controlled dosages. This thought inspired the beginning of  a regular photo based essay on individual methods of ingestion, and reasons for medicating.

I hope that this series will encourage cannabis users to customize their intake, enjoy the process, and promote autonomy among patients.

For the non-user I hope this represents the oft-ignored care and dignity present in the Medical Marijuana community.

I pour purified water into each of the reservoirs .
Having an informed relationship with a wide selection of varietals helps to medicate more accurately. Afi Goo for insomnia, CinX for depression, and so on. Time spent getting to know varietals can be a great investment for the casual user-knowing what strain for what ailment can be crucial to experiencing complete relief.

For relaxation or maybe help falling asleep early,  Conscious Care Cooperative’s signature grown ‘ChemDawg #4‘ is a great choice. Although a heavy strain, the clarity maintained while medicated is decent. This allows me to quell serious anxiety throughout the day without comprising productivity, or social presence.

I take care when trimming the lower part of the bud-it is here that ChemDog #4 appears most resinous. I save the smoother hitting tip of the bud for unfiltered intake.

Packing the ‘bowl’ carefully for a smooth hit that releases the full spectrum of flavor

I set up my space, and begin to heat the glass ‘hot hit wand’, my favored method for combustion.

The heated tip provides a full-bodied hit that is less harsh and butane free, affording more subtle flavors the attention they deserve. A great translation from smell to combusted flavor in this hydroponically grown ChemDog #4, finished with a strong note that registered as sweet tobacco on my palette.

From this strain I can expect a clear-headed optimism to take hold seconds after exhale. Alternately both heavy and airy body sensations to follow, with a rich finish of quiet contemplation. Good for what ails you.

(Generally this strain is recommended for night time use. I find that medicinal Cannabis of this nature can be useful for someone who deals with intense or aggressive anxiety during all times of the day.-Ed)
