3 Tables at the Farmer’s Market
April 14, 2011 § Leave a Comment

Ah yes, the Cannabis Farmer’s Market. Knotty came by my house for a sample of his newest, White Rhino, and we were on our way. Here are 3 tables that caught the eye.
A great co-op that the journal has mentioned before. Last I visited CEG for their tasty and stupefying Caboose, but really fell in love with the uplifting hybrid, #5. A couple of weeks later the owner came by during a photo session with Knottyy, leaving a huge nug (7.2g) of Hawaiian Skunk on his way out. This monster bud was bursting with a tropical bouquet dominated by pineapple. I smoked it daily for an uplifting, top to bottom stone.
Today we took a look at some of their top genetics, G13 and King Kush.
My take home? Ken’s GDP, the only varietal to break a 10$ donation on this stellar menu, pictured below. Ken’s Grandaddy Purple (GDP) from Cutting Edge was a great representation of what the strain could do, a decent cure, great handling and wonderful attention to detail in preserving the Grandaddy’s tranquil smoke

Seattle Cannabis Journal has welcomed local photographer Knottyy to its pages. The great afternoon of good smoke & friendly conversation that was the Farmer’s Market write-up demanded a second collaboration. It was decided an afternoon documenting multiple grows from a single gardener would be just the thing.
Here we have Demosthene’s representations of Diesel, Kush, and Rainbow.
We hope you enjoy this project, as it was truly a pleasure to create.
DIESEL
We pegged Diesel as the first course. The foundation laid down by this smoke was a great jumping off point for both Kush and Rainbow. Given our day’s task we tread lightly when using the water pipe. These hits still provided a trace of the glowing excitement and focus that began guiding our conversation.
It was not hard to discern an astringent leaning cedar kept earthy by deep spice. A nostalgic scent, but not necessarily the robust fuel we expected from the Diesel family-this was a more nuanced approach. The second exhale had a lip-smacking finish with great sustain on the palette, leaving ample time to pick it apart. A second toke locked in cedar, but pulled detail out of the spice. I detected cocoa.
Ten minutes after a few tokes in place, we were hard at work. Knottyy manned the photo area while I frantically scribbled notes on smell and dictated his occasional observations. The conversation pin-balled from our feelings on taste, sensory experience, and future collaboration. Throughout the buzz this multiple trajectory conversation was easy to keep up and productive. Knotty found that a few well-timed bowls could extend the peak, which eventually tapers into a soft glow with no hang-over.

Seattle Cannabis Journal Gets a Little Help…
March 18, 2011 § Leave a Comment

The blogosphere can be a cruel, thankless world-especially for the wordy Cannabis writer. A fact that made us especially grateful to get not one but two cyberspace nods of approval this last week. First our coverage of the Seattle Cannabis Farmer’s Market was syndicated to Village Voice’s weed bloggernaut Toke of the Town, a pleasure we have Steve Elliot to thank for.

If you haven’t had a chance, read it in full here. The stunning photos are courtesy of Seattle Cannabis Journal’s newest member, Knotty. You may have seen his work in West Coast Cannabis Magazine.
The second was from Seattle’s hip neighborhood blog, Cap To the Hill, where our name was included among birds-eye view ramblings about the goings-on of the coolest hill. In unrelated news horrifying monster Glenn Beck stole these photos from the blog for his television program, which is hilarious and sad.
Many thanks to all!

The 12 Day Difference
March 14, 2011 § Leave a Comment

Chemdog #4. A potent smoke sought out by users for its dominating buzz that can range from supremely relaxing, to devastatingly cerebral. Hailed medicinally for its long-lasting pain management and insomnia aid. For some it can also offer relief from anxiety. A representative of Conscious Care Cooperative was kind enough to offer the Journal a sample of multiple grows, one pulled at eight weeks, the second at nine and a half, a premium grow according to CCC.
When comparing them physically, the eight week Chemdog (we will say 8wkCD) had a looser formation with broad leaves that parted from the body, hiding the inner bud. Observing trichome production with the naked eye on 8wkCD you can see a dusting of gauzy white resin, neatly arranged but sparse. At 60x-100x magnification slim bulbs sitting atop stumpy stalks of resin that had just begun to cloud became clear.
Dear Reader: Introductions, Announcements, Future Plans.

Dear Reader,
Since the Journal’s inception two short months ago you have not heard once from its proprietors. A wrong I hope to right with this brief communique. My intentions are to announce future plans, keep the regular reader up to date, and navigate the new user through our pages.
Growth
Firstly, this publication has grown from one, to three. The Journal has acquired two regular photographers, one whom also doubles as an author. I have found their dedication to providing refreshingly unique images, as well as a wealth of natural and learned talent makes them a priceless addition to the blog. I believe you will find the same.
News
The Journal made a good impression last week with its coverage of the Seattle Cannabis Farmer’s Market. To those who use best-of-the-web specialist, Reddit.com, give us a vote. Big ups to whomever took the time to upload the link.
We got our first taste of syndication when our article was edited for Cannabis bloggernaut ‘Toke of the Town‘. Selected and posted by none other than Seattle’s own Steve Elliot. Steve writes also writes ‘Toke Signals‘ for Seattle Weekly, many thanks to Steve.
Seattle Cannabis Journal is also working on a physical menu for Conscious Care Cooperative. They will include waiting room friendly edits of our Cannabis profiles (see below) and photos.

An Inside Look at Seattle’s First Cannabis Farmer’s Market
March 7, 2011 § 6 Comments
By the time you read this, the Senate will have moved to regulate the ‘dispensary’ model, Drug Czar Kerlikowskie will have made his underwhelming march on The Seattle Times, and the city will have celebrated its first ever alternative medicine Farmer’s Market. Make no mistake, this is a very exciting time to be involved in medicinal Cannabis.
The Market was held with the blessing of the surrounding community, it was encouraging to see our law enforcement’s attitude reflecting that of the people. The Farmer’s Market provides a safe place for patients to have regular access to a variety of medicine and providers. It looks like Seattle dates will continue being hosted in the centrally located Little Red Bistro’s ‘Moroccan Room’ near Dexter and Denny.
I topped off my morning toke of ‘Jesus‘ with a coffee from Uptown Espresso where I took preliminary notes. Once the mood struck I wandered down to the site of the Farmer’s Market. Patients enter through the front of the restaurant, passing the bar and heading through the back door. The high-ceilinged Moroccan Room housed a good deal of vendors, and a sea of patients.

North West Grower Profile #1 “Demosthenes”
February 14, 2011 § 1 Comment
Demosthenes, after the great Greek orator, is one of the many talented Cannabis cultivators that grace the North West. True to his namesake, when he visits Medical Marijuana forums his time is usually spent banging out angry diatribes about the nature of Washington State’s ‘Rip-Ops’-his name for the collectives and co-ops that have sprouted up all over the North West. Demosthenes rails against the medical Cannabis access points that set any donation above 10$, claiming this is nothing more than plain ‘robbery’.
Which is how I met him. After posting a review for ‘Jack Herer’ (a 15$ medicine from Suzie Q’s) on THClist his comments came flying in. After round 1, I had been accused of being a paid ‘shill’-a person who writes fluff reviews for organizations or products, then later of supporting ‘thieves’-my positive review of the 15$ donation. Despite his subtle communication techniques, I sensed I had tapped into a sensitive issue. In full journalistic fervor I contacted Demosthenes-a small gamble to see if this man could really produce the top shelf medicine he claimed, and a chance to make a well-rounded contribution to the debate. « Read the rest of this entry »
