Introducing SCJ’s Jar-Top Labels

September 24, 2011 § 2 Comments

Cut to fit a wide-mouth canning jar’s top, these new label’s were designed by Portland poster artists, R.S. Delucco.

So a bottom to top run-down of the goods, here it is:

Symbols I chose these 3 symbols (the trichome, the cannabis plant, and the oil dab) to represent our focus on cannabis and concentrates. In the future hash, kief, and other dry extracts will be labeled with the trichome symbol, the oils and their like will be labeled with the dab, and so on.

Form Each label has an area to fill in the person packaging the material (by handle or real name), the amount that was weighed and packaged (scales calibrated weekly to ensure accuracy), and the date packaged on. Cannabis is only opened and exposed to outside elements when packaging for donation, making this information more pertinent.

Phenotype & Genetics All varietals will have easily referenced genetics and phenotype available underneath its title.

How We Get High: A little bit about ingesting concentrates

September 15, 2011 § Leave a Comment

‘Concentrate’ is an umbrella term for any product that is primarily made of cannabis resin glands, the trichomes. This can be water extracted hash, a solvent extract (such as butane or isopropyl), hash oil, budder, wax, shatter and so on.

Until the appearance of tools such as the ‘vapor skillet’ and ‘nail and dome’, high-quality concentrates were not as widely accessible as they are today.

An example of a 'vapor skillet'. Also called 'vapor curve' or 'vapor swing'. The titanium pad is heated using a butane torch, then the concentrate is 'dabbed' on to the now hot pad, creating smoke that is pulled through the glass bell. Photo pulled from ALT's GlassDistrict.Com account.

All For the Love of Oil (A Brief Introduction)

September 14, 2011 § 6 Comments

Cannabis oil can be an intimidating world for the uninitiated, this article should inform and empower users when approaching this incredible cannabis product. The principal behind its production is simple, but varies greatly in result. Cannabis (ideally prime sugar leaf, tight budlings, & whole buds) is exposed to a solvent (usually Butane or Isopropyl) which strips the plant matter of its trichomes-those glistening stalks of resin people look for on buds. This resin contains most of what we want from cannabis: terpenes (responsible for aroma & taste) & the host of cannabinoids (the chemicals in the plant, such as THC-9, CBD, THC-V, & so on).

Once the solvent has dissolved the resin, the resulting solvent/cannabinoid paste is then purged of (various methods are employed here) & filtered until a pure & very potent extract is left. Some of these reductions can be estimated around 6 grams of dried cannabis to 1 gram of concentrate. A higher presence of wax & lipids (due to a light purge) can increase the weight, taste, & smell of the product, but decrease the potency. A nearly pure cannabinoid extract will taste more like sap, but be mind-bogglingly potent. First-time users should approach with extreme caution, and it is recommended you first try a minimal dose.

Apologies, Excuses, Photos

August 5, 2011 § Leave a Comment

I know. We’ve been terrible blog-keepers. Succumbing to humdrum of endless caffeine, late-night work sessions, to-do lists and their ilk…we’ve lost a little drive. But, momentum seems to be gaining! Just last night I saw jack scribbling notes about the oft-ignored Indica Dominant, Original Chronic.

Anyhow, in place of any literary substance I will once again throw the new photos up here to appease the patient reader. Hope it serves has some sort of consolation.

Love Always, Space_Cake

The Green Door

April 28, 2011 § 1 Comment

The Green Door is located in the International District at 1207 S.Jackson St (12th and Jackson). Accessible from many points in inner Seattle (including the somewhat untapped Capitol Hill) it sits in a public and secure parking lot surrounded by a yellow two-story building. If you stand facing away from the street, look to the right hand corner. On the bottom floor you’ll see a green door with white lettering stating ‘Members Only’.

The waiting room is one of the more dignified atmospheres you come across in Washington’s co-op scene. Wood floors and minimalist art hangings are enjoyed next to leather couches and the usual magazines. A poster-size display in the corner sported the weekly special, Super Silver Girl. It included a statement from the grower and a list of its medicinal uses. You can read more about Super Silver Girl in their menu.
