HIGH TIMES CUP …Refine gets ready

September 5, 2012 § Leave a Comment

20120905-211509.jpg

The very beginnings (not counting seed and soil of course) of the Refine x FireBrothers concentrate entry for the 2012 Seattle High Times Cup.

These two varietals, chosen from a harvest at the beginning of this year, were nitrogen-sealed (nearly equivalent to complete homeostasis) and now frozen. This material will be concentrated and purged of N-Butane hours before entry. For this cup Refine is working on a small-batch ‘artisan’ run consisting of powerful CBD material, which will undergo a proprietary preparation, and blended with this year’s DOPE Cup winner for highest THC (21%) White Dawg.

Refine and Seattle’s Best will be available for a meet and greet, and also to discuss the development butane testing in Washington alongside Northwest Botanical Analysis.

Butane Testing Comes to Washington State MMJ

July 30, 2012 § 2 Comments

Seattle’s Best Cannabis & Concentrates in-house concentrate specialist Refine has been spearheading an effort alongside WA state’s independent laboratory Northwest Botanical Analysis to develop a standard of testing for butane and any commercial additives that may be present.

This test can even be tried against specific brands of commercial butane the processor may have used, to test not only for butane, but also its unique make up of other chemicals.

We will be working through the next couple weeks to test the results against multiple variables-such as purging surface used, temperatures, starting material, etc. to try and produce a test that can guarantee a safe pass/fail system for Washington State patients.

The strong and immediate relief offered through concentrated medicine that can be combusted and inhaled (translation: smoking) is an extremely powerful tool for patients previously dependent on opiates or other pill-form medication. We hope to lead the charge in an even safer, and more effective way of relief.

We’ll keep you updated, happy dabbing.

Introducing SCJ’s Jar-Top Labels

September 24, 2011 § 2 Comments

Cut to fit a wide-mouth canning jar’s top, these new label’s were designed by Portland poster artists, R.S. Delucco.

So a bottom to top run-down of the goods, here it is:

Symbols I chose these 3 symbols (the trichome, the cannabis plant, and the oil dab) to represent our focus on cannabis and concentrates. In the future hash, kief, and other dry extracts will be labeled with the trichome symbol, the oils and their like will be labeled with the dab, and so on.

Form Each label has an area to fill in the person packaging the material (by handle or real name), the amount that was weighed and packaged (scales calibrated weekly to ensure accuracy), and the date packaged on. Cannabis is only opened and exposed to outside elements when packaging for donation, making this information more pertinent.

Phenotype & Genetics All varietals will have easily referenced genetics and phenotype available underneath its title.

How We Get High: A little bit about ingesting concentrates

September 15, 2011 § Leave a Comment

‘Concentrate’ is an umbrella term for any product that is primarily made of cannabis resin glands, the trichomes. This can be water extracted hash, a solvent extract (such as butane or isopropyl), hash oil, budder, wax, shatter and so on.

Until the appearance of tools such as the ‘vapor skillet’ and ‘nail and dome’, high-quality concentrates were not as widely accessible as they are today.

An example of a 'vapor skillet'. Also called 'vapor curve' or 'vapor swing'. The titanium pad is heated using a butane torch, then the concentrate is 'dabbed' on to the now hot pad, creating smoke that is pulled through the glass bell. Photo pulled from ALT's GlassDistrict.Com account.
